This study investigated the relationship between the Big Five personality traits—Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness—and employees’ work engagement. It also examined differences in personality traits and engagement when grouped by work classification. Participants included 121 employees from Olivarez College, Tagaytay, consisting of 61 teaching and 60 non-teaching personnel. Findings revealed a significant relationship between all personality traits and levels of work engagement. While personality traits significantly differed between teaching and non-teaching groups, no significant differences were found in their levels of engagement. This indicates that both groups experience similar degrees of energy, dedication, and involvement in their work regardless of role differences. The study concluded that personality traits influence engagement and satisfaction in a higher education setting. Employees who demonstrated cooperation, compassion, and positive interpersonal relationships exhibited higher motivation and engagement. In contrast, individuals with higher neuroticism tended to show lower engagement levels. Additionally, the nature of job roles alone does not determine engagement. The study suggests that school administrators and human resource departments can enhance employee engagement by implementing well-being programs and supportive policies that address both personal and professional needs.
